What’s Case In Point?

It’s the first independent, student-run publication dedicated exclusively to covering Boston University men’s and women’s basketball.

The goal? Well, there’s a lot:

  • Deliver extensive coverage of each and every game BU men’s and women’s hoops plays. Case Gym is the home of Case In Point. If it’s hosting a basketball game, we’ll be there providing real, in-person reporting — live tweets, instant takeaways, game stories and columns. And when BU hits the road, we’ll do our best to make it out, too; but even if we can’t, we’ve got you with full, remote coverage.

  • Tell the stories you won’t find anywhere else. There’s few places in sports with more relatable personalities than a mid-major college basketball program. We spent a month with BU’s men’s and women’s teams before the season began, and we’ve got eight feature stories for you. So dig in. And now that the season has begun, expect more to come — as both teams compete for a ticket to March Madness.

  • Take student-journalism to the next level. At the end of the day, we’re still four journalism students at BU. But we’ve all got professional experience and we’re dedicated to delivering thorough, accurate, objective and meaningful journalism, all season long. There isn’t a professional outlet out there covering BU basketball. We’ve got you covered.

We hope that’s enough for you to stick around. And if it is…

Why subscribe?

To get each and every story we publish sent directly to your inbox. We’ll be posting takeaways from each game at the buzzer, full game stories soon after and, for the games you really need to read about, analysis or opinion columns the next morning.

No need to surf through Twitter (fine, X) for links or refresh the Substack app after games. Subscribers get every story sent to them the moment we publish.

And — it’s totally free! So, why not?

Here’s a little bit about the four bylines you’ll be reading this season…

Meet the team

The founder of Case In Point, Sam Robb O’Hagan is a junior at BU from Westchester, N.Y.

He covered BU hoops the previous two years for WTBU Sports, where he was the editor for its basketball coverage last season. He also covers BU men’s and women’s hockey for the Boston Hockey Blog, and he’s a former Sports Co-op at The Boston Globe.

Sam is a superfan of The Athletic and is heavily inspired by its college basketball coverage. He’s fallen in love with the sport over the last two years and is pumped to continue writing about it for Case In Point. He’s especially excited to cover the women’s team in-person on November 7, when BU travels to Hartford, Conn. for a showdown with Paige Bueckers and UConn at the XL Center.

Sam’s favorite month of the year is March.

Henry Dinh-Price is a third-year journalism student at BU and a co-founder of Case In Point. He hails from Marin County, Calif.

Henry has experience covering high school sports as a Sports Co-op at The Boston Globe and formerly covered BU basketball for WTBU Sports. He is a Patriot League women’s basketball weekly awards voter for the 2024-25 season. Henry is also an on-air sports analyst, covering professional and BU sports for BUTV10’s sports talk shows.

He played varsity basketball at Marin Academy in San Rafael, Calif., and was a team captain in his senior season. His favorite NBA team is the Golden State Warriors and his favorite player is Steph Curry.

Luke Scotchie is a sportswriter based in Boston. Before co-founding Case In Point, he grew up in Orlando, Florida, where he developed a love for writing and telling stories after reading books, watching movies and falling in love with those tales. A few years later, his family introduced him to the Orlando Magic, which led him to begin admiring the details of basketball and the NBA. Luke spent most of his teenage years listening and working to become stronger and more knowledgeable in these two areas.

These two passions coalesced into a love for sportswriting, and he has since covered the Orlando Magic, Boston Celtics, Worcester Red Sox and BU men’s and women’s basketball teams.

Luke currently attends BU, where he studies journalism and expects to graduate in May 2025. In his spare time, Luke likes to write, analyze a compelling story, watch sports, and Play the Song after every Magic victory.

A co-founder of Case In Point, Eli Cloutier is a junior at BU. A former co-op with the Boston Globe covering high school sports, Eli also covers the BU men's and women's hockey teams for the Boston Hockey Blog.

While he's not 6-foot-8, Eli emulates Jayson Tatum's game on the court and enjoys watching it from the comfort of his home.

He's looking forward to covering both the men's and women's basketball teams at BU and is excited to do so for Case In Point.
