The 2024-25 season is right around the corner for the Boston University men’s basketball program. Here’s a look at the team’s schedule, with some interesting tidbits about each matchup.
November 4 - vs. Northeastern - 7 p.m.
BU opened last season on the road at Matthews Arena, a 67-58 loss. In 151 all-time games against the Huskies, the Terriers have won 75 and lost 76.Â
November 8 - at San Diego - 10 p.m.
Friday’s tilt against the Toreros will be the first ever meeting between the two teams. USD went 18-15 last season and lost in the WCC quarterfinal.
November 11 - at UCLA - 10 p.m.
The last time the two teams played was on Dec. 7, 1988, which the Bruins won, 85-74. UCLA opens the season the No. 22 team in the country, and should it remain ranked, the Nov. 11 matchup would be BU’s first against a ranked opponent since it played No. 1 Kentucky in 2015, a 82-62 loss at Rupp Arena.
November 16 - vs. Dartmouth - 1 p.m.
In 33 games against the Big Green, the Terriers have won 10 and lost 23. In a December meeting in Hanover last season, Dartmouth defeated BU, 63-54.
November 19 - vs. Wagner - 7 p.m.
The two teams competed last on Dec. 10, 2023, which the Terriers won 73-59. The Seahawks are coming off an NEC Championship and a loss in the first round of the NCAA tournament to North Carolina.
November 23 - at UMBC - 12 p.m.
In 25 games against the Retrievers, the Terriers have won 18 and lost 7. UMBC, famously, became the first program to defeat a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament as a No. 16 seed, toppling Virginia in 2018.
November 24 - vs. Howard - 12 p.m.
The two sides played last season on Nov. 14, and the Bison won 64-53. Howard won the MEAC last season and lost in the First Four of the NCAA tournament to Wagner.
December 1 - vs. Sacred Heart - 4 p.m.
In the lone matchup between the two teams last season on Dec. 2, the Terriers won 70-49.
December 7 - vs. Albany - 1 p.m.
In 30 games against the Great Danes, the Terriers have averaged 67.5 points per game. BU traveled to Albany in November last season and lost, 86-72.
December 9 - vs. Thomas College - 6 p.m.
Monday’s contest against the Division 3 opponent will be the first ever meeting between the two teams.
December 13 - at Merrimack - 7 p.m.
The Terriers have never lost to the Warriors in 10 matchups. It’s Merrimack’s first season as a member of the MAAC after four seasons in the Northeast Conference.
December 21 - at UMass Lowell - 2 p.m.
In five games against the River Hawks in Lowell, the Terriers have lost two and won three. They played in BU’s penultimate non-conference game last season, and UMass Lowell won, 71-63.
December 29 - at Maine - 2 p.m.
The two teams first played on Jan. 1, 1903, which the Terriers lost, 14-12. Maine traveled to Case Gym in early December of last season and won, 74-65.
January 2 - at Lafayette - 7 p.m.
Thursday’s contest opens Patriot League play for the Terriers. The Leopards finished third in the conference last season but lost in the quarterfinal against Lehigh.
January 5 - vs. Army - 1 p.m.
In 41 games played against the Black Knights, the Terriers have scored 2,794 points for an average of 68.1. Army was the No. 8 seed in the Patriot League Tournament last year and lost in the opening round.
January 8 - vs. American - 7 p.m.
In 13 games against the Eagles at Case Gym, the Terriers have won nine and lost four. Last season, they won 72-68.
January 11 - at Colgate - 2 p.m.
The Terriers are 1-9 in their last 10 games against the Raiders, last winning, 76-72, on Jan. 28, 2022. Colgate has won four consecutive Patriot League Championships. The last time it didn’t win the league’s tournament was in 2019-20, when BU defeated the Raiders in the title game for its first and only NCAA bid under head coach Joe Jones.
January 15 - vs. Lehigh - 6 p.m.
The Mountain Hawks ended the Terriers season last year, defeating them 84-79 in overtime in the Patriot League semifinal on March 10 at Case Gym. They eventually lost at Colgate in the title game.
January 18 - at Army - 12 p.m.
In 23 games at West Point, the Terriers have won 11 games and lost 12. Army swept BU in last season’s series.
January 22 - at Navy - 7 p.m.
The two teams first met on March 13, 1959, which the Terriers won 62-55. They last played in the quarterfinal of the Patriot League tournament last season, a 70-61 BU victory at Case Gym.
January 25 - vs. Bucknell - 1 p.m.
The Terriers are 7-3 against the Bison in their last 10 games, last winning, 77-62, on Feb. 10.
January 27 - vs. Holy Cross - 7 p.m.
In 89 games against the Crusaders, the Terriers have won 28 games and lost 61. The team’s split last season’s Turnpike Trophy, each winning at home.
February 1 - at Loyola Maryland - 2 p.m.
In 26 games against the Greyhounds, the Terriers average 72.23 points per game. BU swept last season’s series.
February 5 - vs. Navy - 7 p.m.
The Terriers are 5-7 in 12 games against the Midshipmen at Case Gym.
February 8 - at Holy Cross - 12 p.m.
In the first ever meeting between the two teams on Jan. 10, 1903, the Terriers lost 33-4. This matchup will be the second of two doubleheaders with the women’s programs between the two Massachusetts rivals.
February 12 - at Bucknell - 7 p.m.
The Terriers have an identical 6-7 record against the Bison at home and on the road. The teams also had an identical conference record last season, both finishing 10-8 as part of a four-way tie behind Colgate at the top of the conference. BU won all the tiebreakers, earning the No. 2 seed, while Bucknell lost all of them and was left with the No. 5 seed.
February 15 - vs. Colgate - 1 p.m.
The Terriers defeated the Raiders in 20 straight games between Jan. 9, 1980, and Feb. 12, 2014.
February 19 - vs. Loyola Maryland - 7 p.m.
The Terriers have won six straight games against the Greyhounds, dating back to Jan. 19, 2022.
February 23 - at American - TBD
In 24 games against the Eagles, the Terriers have averaged 64.83 points per game.
February 26 - at Lehigh - 6 p.m.
In 25 games against the Mountain Hawks, the Terriers hold a 15-10 record. Last time BU traveled to Stabler Arena, it won in overtime on a buzzer beater from now-senior guard Ethan Okwuosa on Feb. 28.
March 1 - vs. Lafayette - 1 p.m.
The two teams first played on Dec. 1, 1948, which the Terriers lost 43-41.
